Donating through the sale of stocks/securities

First, if you believe donating to World Neighbours Canada through the sale of stocks/securities might a good option for you, the first step is to contact your financial advisor and alert him/her of the desire.  

Your financial advisor should be able to advise you about the benefits of such a donation and, once you have determined the dollar amount you wish to donate; your financial advisor would determine the best stock/security to sell, and the quantity needed.

Next steps:

  1. Complete the Donation Request form, downloadable from the bottom of this page. Your financial advisor will let you know if you must sign a paper copy of the form, or if you can use an e-signature.
  2. The completed form will be e-mailed to:
    • your own financial advisor AND 
    • to Ryan Gerrard at Odlum Brown (address is on the request form)
  3. The transaction (sale of stocks or securities) will be completed by Ryan after he gets the request from your financial advisor. The sale of the stocks will take place within a maximum of 3 days. Please note that there is a charge for completing the transaction. The charge is $125 – a set amount – regardless of the dollar amount you are donating. This “fee” will be taken off the amount received for the sale of the stocks.
  4. Once the sale of the stocks / securities is completed, you will receive an email with the transaction details. The “net amount” from the transaction details email will be the amount of your tax receipt.
  5. The day the transaction is completed by Odlum Brown, the money will be sent directly to the World Neighbours Canada bank account in Oliver. You will receive your tax receipt soon after the sale has taken place.
